These things always seem to happen to someone else, that is, until they actually happen to you. On May 17, 2016, Lynne learned that she had breast cancer. Leading up to the diagnosis we were hoping for the best but bracing ourselves for the worst. I don't remember much after the doctor uttered the words "you have breast cancer" to Lynne. During the ensuing days, we learned more about breast cancer then we ever thought we'd need to know. It really felt like we were drinking from the firehouse.

Fortunately, the outcry of support that we've received from friends, family and co-workers has been phenomenal. This support has been very humbling and played a huge part in helping Lynne believe that she can get through this.

We're starting this blog to allow Lynne to keep everyone up-to-date on her diagnosis and treatment. It's been a long two weeks but she's worked with her doctors to come up with a plan for her treatment. Her treatment protocol will consist of 12 weeks of chemotherapy, three weeks for recovery, surgery, 4-6 weeks for recovery, chemotherapy for another 8 weeks and radiation for 6 weeks.

As a testament to Lynne's toughness and readiness to take this cancer head on, she pushed her doctors to start her treatments immediately despite having spent the previous day at MGH for various tests and labs.  I have no doubt she will beat this and come out of it stronger and better then before.

Lynne, the kids and I will be here to see you through these coming weeks and months. You'll be loved and cared for through all the trials and tribulations that lay ahead. I love you, sweety!
